  • 3 to 5 million years ago a sandstone ridge was formed, the Wilson Grove formation.

  • The ridge was once beachfront property that created the sandy soil at Fog Crest.

  • The Fog Crest vineyard with its sandy loam soil is terroir suited for Burgundian wines.

  • Red soil offers excellent drainage for roots and the roots go deep to find water.

  • Cool fog rolls in to cool things down. Prime grape growing.

  • All of these factors make for an excellent fruit for wine making.
